C. Christopher Scott’s upcoming release, Meditations, is a smooth project of melodic jazz and smooth grooves focused on ‘getting your mind right’. It’s the perfect music project to play when you just need to relax your mind and escape and be in a peaceful place when life can seem so chaotic and full of pain. The music calibrates the soul and regulates the mind by putting your focus on the beauty that God has in your life right now and the wonderful things that are in your future.
“I was sitting one day thinking about all the terrible things that were going on in the world. The killings, the rape, the crime, the hate…then I started focusing on my own struggles, the loss of my dad and other things I just wasn’t happy with. It all got to me at one point and I felt the weight of living in a world full of individuals that have stopped caring about their value, marriages, dreams and anything else that really mattered. I started feeling the loss of hope around me.
There’s a text of scripture that says: “as a man thinketh, so is he” and then this song came into my head: “Think on these things” and I started to get strength when I changed my focus to some of the beautiful things that I was missing while I was so focused on my grief, my loss and my frustrations.”
Christopher developed the whole project around the premise of Philippians 4:8:
8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
“I think a lot of people are in the same place I was in. You start feeling that weight that makes you focus on all of the bad things going on around you instead of all of the beautiful things that are inside of you. Anything can become a distraction when you give access to toxic emotions, thoughts and relationships. I think a lot of it comes from focusing so much on the past that we are unable to really grasp or look towards our future. I realized that when we take control of our thoughts and start focusing our meditations on positive things, our lives start operating at an optimal level. Negativity only accesses you when you grant access.”
The single Healer was the foundation of the project.
“My father called me at the beginning of 2014. We had not been in touch for a while but we had a great talk and mended a lot of things over the course of the year. We were both able to do a lot of healing in our relationship. In June, he called me and gave me a bunch of scriptures on Healing which I had heard a million times before so I asked him what he wanted me to do. He asked me to write a song for him. As soon as I hung up the phone and sat at the piano, Healer is the song that God gave me. Dad loved it and he said it perfectly depicted how he felt. After that, he started saying weird things like take care of your wife and your family. I didn’t connect the dots until later when he finally told all of us that he had been diagnosed with cancer. We all expected him to beat it because he was such a strong man and a huge presence in this earth but a few weeks after we found out he was sick, he passed from the earth to heaven in August. I am dedicating this release to his memory as I told him I would release it to the world. I pray this song blesses you as it did him.
The struggle we experience with a loved one is that we often pray for healing and when they pass we feel as if God did not answer our prayers. Nothing could be further from the truth. In heaven, there is no sickness or sorrow. Dad is completely healed, sometimes it just doesn’t happen on this side. God answers our prayers, but often we miss it because we think He should do it the way that we want. I’ve come to understand that God does things well and the way we need it to be done. Healer speaks to that process. He heals a lot of things at one time and you may need healing in your mind, heart or body. The important thing to realize is God is the source of all healing. Healer is the foundation of the project because i believe that God has giving me songs that bring holistic healing. So many people are hurting and struggling to get to tomorrow and we all need to be healed from something. Sickness extends way beyond the physical body and it affects our ability to interact and forge healthy relationships. We have to heal, we have to re focus our hearts on the beautiful things we have rather than what we want. Life is beautiful and it is a gift that we have to take full advantage of. We can’t be tricked into complaining because someone always has it much worse than we do. Be grateful, be thankful, Heal and live your best life possible.”
